Bear Metal wins tournament and Chairman’s Award
This past Friday and Saturday Bear Metal competed in their initial robotics tournament for the 2014 season. 32 teams from around the Pacific Northwest competed in the 2014 FIRST Game entitled “Aerial Assist.” After the qualification rounds, Bear Metal allied with the Bionic Braves from Bethel High School and Lion Robotics From Auburn Mountainview to battle through the elimination rounds. The Quarters and the Semifinals went smoothly, but the finals were brutal and we had a tough battle for the win.
In addition to winning the tournament, Bear Metal won the Chairman’s Award. This award is the most prestigious given by FIRST and it is given to the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate by inspiring greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology. This award alone qualifies the team for the District Championship in Portland.
Bear Metal’s next district competition will be in Mt Vernon on the 14th and 15th.
