Red Ribbon Week is upon us Tahoma

December 13, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

Red Ribbon Week is a national event which promotes drug, alcohol, tobacco and violence prevention in our community.  This year the THS Prevention Squad will be promoting awareness by hosting several lunchtime events at the HS including our annual Healthy Choices Pledge event, red tulip planting and a drug information Jeapordy game show.

Please show your support by pledging to live a healthy lifestyle and not promoting underage alcohol or illegal drug use.

Because Tahoma is only drug free for one week out of the year? Why isn’t it yearlong? We can do better.

Your sarcasm made me LOL, but you are all too right.

We need to be much more aware of what drugs can do to our bodies, our families, and our lives.

Tahoma seems to only care about drugs when either a) a big drug-bust with multiple expulsions occurs, or b) a once-a-year event happens, called “Red Ribbon Week”. This fact makes me sad.

We, as a school, need to be at attention year-round.

We need to change. The Maple Valley area, like many areas in Western Washington, has a drug problem. We aren’t a “drug school”, by any means, but we need to be aware that we still have access to things that can hurt us. Hurt us bad.
